It has been recognized as a historic monument since 1840. For the sake of history, it’s worth noting that a basilica once stood in its place, but was destroyed by fire in 441. From 1272 to 1340, this Gothic cathedral gradually took its place, and was intended to have the same prestige as the other cathedrals found in the Kingdom of France.
